Employee wellbeing will dominate this year’s Reward Live conference and exhibition at Edgbaston on 13-14 May, and as the one-month to go count-down begins, insurance company MetLife has today announced it is putting its money where its mouth is by launching its own comprehensive staff wellness programme.

The programme, for the firm’s 400 staff in its Canary Wharf and Brighton offices, is being run by AXA PPP Healthcare, and incorporates individual health consultations areas including Body Mass Index and cholesterol.

It is available for all staff across its Wealth Management, Employee Benefits and Individual Protection businesses, and it is being launched with a dedicated ‘Wellness Week’ that offers staff a range of seminars and advice on health and stress issues. Also available are massages and free gym passes, as well as office yoga and smoothie taster sessions. Employee sessions during the Wellness Week include talks to staff on resilience and mindfulness.

The wellness programme has been developed following feedback from staff and builds on services MetLife already offers to corporate clients.

Tom Gaynor, Employee Benefits Director of MetLife UK, said: “Wellness cannot be truly at the heart of our proposition if we do not embrace it as a company. In order to achieve our aim of being a market-leading insurer we need to also be a market-leading employer.”

He added: “That is why we’ve launched the Wellness Week and the wider programme. We strongly believe healthy employees are happy employees and that everyone should have access to wellness at work.”

MetLife’s own research shows improving health and wellness at work is the number one objective when designing employee benefits programmes – 82% of employers chose it as their primary objective slightly ahead of retaining staff.
